A CHARTER ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 3 OF CHARTER ORDINANCE NO. 13 THAT EXEMPTED THE CITY OF BONNER SPRINGS, KANSAS, FROM K.S.A. 14-201 AND PROVIDING SUBSTITUTE AND ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS ON THE SAME SUBJECT OF AND RELATING TO THE ELECTION AND APPOINTMENT OF CITY OFFICERS AND THE TERMS OF SUCH OFFICERS.

Section 1. The City of Bonner Springs, Kansas, by the power vested in it by Article 12, Section 5, of the Constitution of the State of Kansas, hereby elects to exempt itself from and makes inapplicable to K.S.A. 14-201, which statutory section is not applicable uniformly to all cities, and provide substitute and additional provisions as hereinafter set forth in this ordinance.

Section 2. Section 3 of Charter Ordinance 13 shall be Amended to Read as Follows:

       The city manager shall appoint a municipal judge of the municipal court, a chief of police, city clerk, city treasurer, city attorney, and may appoint police officers and such other officers as deemed necessary. Officers so appointed and confirmed shall hold their offices for the term specified in a written contract, if any, or if none, at the pleasure of the city manager. The council shall, by ordinance, specify their duties and, by ordinance, may abolish any office created by them whenever they may deem it expedient. The city manager may appoint and provide for reasonable compensation for the retained services of a licensed professional engineer to act in the capacity of city engineer for specifically defined duties.
